A note from the editor…
I recently received an email (thank you Mr. Mead) saying how great it is to see that on Tuned In Music, the pencil lines between indie & major label artists are continuing to be erased. It was a very nice email, but the truth is, I had never thought of it that way. What is the difference? Music can be appreciated on many levels, whether you’re a multi-platinum selling artist or a 13-year-old kid figuring out a few chords in his bedroom. To me, the latter is more impressive.
Not that selling millions of records isn’t, but in some people, after a while, the passion to play music dies once you reach a high level of success. It is with the artists who continue to tour incessantly, even though the pay may not be as great, that music can be most appreciated, because there is still that drive. Not that making a buck isn’t important either, but it’s always nice to see an artist who will keep at it and put on a great show night after night, even if it’s in my living room and not Madison Square Garden.
So to me, the only real difference between an indie and major label artist is that things are a little bit easier on those who have a major label backing them, and good for them. Indie artists have it a little bit tougher, but it doesn’t mean that the music isn’t as good. They just have to work a little harder to get it out there.
The bottom line—music can be good whether it’s in your face all the time, or hiding under a rock somewhere, just waiting to be found. And at Tuned In Music, we like looking under rocks.
It has also recently come to my attention that my personal email must have somehow been distributed all through the U.K., because I have been getting emails from pretty much every musician over there wanting coverage. A little strange, I thought at first, but a good strange. So just like we did our drummers feature, next month will be our Music from across the pond…feature. I know you all love those British lovelies as much as I do, so stay tuned next month to hear about some great new music…with an accent.
Speaking of our foreign friends, I also want to take this opportunity to say hello to all of you. I’ve become aware that we have readers in Japan, Italy, Belgium, Poland, Spain, Brazil, France, Sweden, the Netherlands…you name it…so I just wanted to say thanks for stopping by. It’s nice to know you’re staying up to date on your music, even though you might have to translate the articles. So welcome to all our visitors, and sorry I don’t speak more languages!
This month…
Check out Vanessa Carlton in our Artist Spotlight. We also have great new interviews with Tyler Hilton, Virginia Coalition and Heath Brandon.
Plus a feature on Awarestore.com and many great reviews.
Also, if you can and if you care, check out the info on how to help save Philadelphia Alternative Radio Station Y100. Join the likes of Dave Matthews in fighting to get them back on the air.
Thanks for tuning in!
Until next month…
