A note from the editor…

A few years ago, I was at an open mike night in Boston.  I was standing to the side of the room, and about a half hour into the evening, I noticed that there was a couple standing near me, probably in their mid to late 20’s, sort of looking around and whispering to each other.  Eventually they started chatting with me.  The man told me that they were there because they heard Jeff Buckley was going to be doing a surprise performance.

Yeah, that would definitely be something like a surprise.

Just to make sure I heard right, I asked him to repeat who it was he thought was going to be there.  And sure enough, after an explanation, I found that he most definitely meant the Jeff Buckley.

What do you say to that?  Is there a way to respond?

I just did the smile and nod routine and eventually crept away from them into the safer territory of the latte drinkers.  I didn’t know whether to be shocked or mad.  They made themselves out to be such huge fans…how would they be oblivious to the fact that the great Jeff Buckley is deceased?

Another time, I was at a Matt Nathanson show with my brother and a friend.  A girl in front of us was ecstatic because Pete Francis was also playing.  She loved him.  Might even be his biggest fan.  When my friend asked her what her favorite song was, she replied, “Track 6 on the new CD.”  Track 6?  She couldn’t remember the name, she said.  Next time just don’t say anything.  Track 6?  Seriously?

That’s when I realized…math…science…that’s not what we really need to be educated on.  Music education is just as important.  I hate math.  Give me some music and I’ll be happy to learn all you want me to.

That’s what I hope you find on Tuned In Music.

Maybe you’ll see some artists on here you already like.  Maybe you’ll be daring and read an interview with an artist you’ve never heard of before.  Maybe you’ll pick up a new CD after reading the review here. 

And maybe you won’t.

Maybe you’ll hate everything, but that’s fine.  Just give it a chance, and don’t count anything out.  You don’t want to be that kid, ten years down the road, saying, “Yeah I really like that Gavin DeGraw song, ‘Let’s Get It On.’” (For those of you unfamiliar with either, Gavin DeGraw covers the Marvin Gaye song.  Now we’re clear)

So hopefully you learn a little here, stay up to date with featured artists, and have a laugh or two.  Why not?
