The Films

 By: Shannon Robinson

The Films (formerly known as Tinkers Punishment) bring out catchy lyrics and a mix of pop and rock, resulting in a sound filled with a bit of classic rock with modern sounds. The band consists of Michael Robinson (lead vocals/guitar), Kenny Harris (guitar/keys/backing vocals), Adam Blake (drums), and Jake Sinclair (bass guitar/backing vocals). As I was listening to their EP the first thing I thought was wow. Everything seems to flow, from the beginning to the end. From the guitar riffs, bass line, and amazing vocals—you can immediately hear the talent that emits from each member of the band.

The first track I listened to was "Big Mistake". It is a an angst filled song containing lyrics such as: "Don't start up again you've already said it... and once was good enough...I hope everyday you wake up and regret it...to think I wasted so much time on you 'cause I had nothing else to do." It turned out to be a song I couldn't help but nod my head to while moving my feet in sync with the drums and guitar. Another song that caught my attention was "I'm Not Gonna Call You.”   Robinson’s lead vocals pull you in and are just tantalizing. The chorus changes about 2-3 times in this song with the most striking version being: "'Cause I'm not gonna call you...I'm not gonna write but I'll show up at your door in the middle of the night...and I'm not gonna love you, I'm not gonna cry but I'll stick around till morning and then I'll say goodbye". The lyrics and sounds coming from the drums, guitars, and bass once again make you want to move.

If you are looking for music that is real, raw, and edgy then The Films are for you. If you are looking for new music, give them a try. It is definitely worth it. I was stunned to learn that they aren't signed to a label. I know that will change soon. Something this good will not go unnoticed.
