Westrin & Mowry
One Week Epiphany
By: Lori Kapes
Remember those beautiful summer days, where the day was so perfect from beginning to end? The morning air was so crisp and the sky was so clear. Then by the evening the sky was every shade of purple, red, and orange. It was so mesmerizing that the only way you can take it all in was to close your eyes and let out a relaxing sigh. That’s exactly what Westrin & Mowry’s debut album “One Week Epiphany” feels like.
Westrin & Mowry is comprised of Brian Westrin on guitar and vocals and Peter Mowry on guitar. The twosome combines acoustic guitar with harmonica and even a little violin to create a great blend of rock and folk music. Each of the 11 songs features easy-on- the-ears vocals from the slightly raspy voiced Westrin and simple guitar strums from Mowry. One of the tracks that stands out is “Fold in Two.” It starts of with a breezy strum of the guitar and Westrin’s thick vocals. Halfway through, Westrin goes soft and a piano slightly emerges. Then by the end it turns out to be the hardest of all the tracks.
I’m not one for comparing new artists to already established artists, however these guys do sound a bit similar to the band Travis and singer/songwriter Jason Mraz. With that being said, I think these guys got something going on for themselves. They manage to transport the listener to more peaceful times. Because of that it’s hard not to fall in love with this duo’s wonderful music.
